The symbol on the side or bottom of the bottle tells recyclable plants which plastic it is and where to position the bottles for washing (Washing is a term used by recycling plants to break recycled plastic). This identifies the type of plastic resin used to make the item by providing a ‘Resin Identification Code’. It is represented with a ‘chasing arrows’ symbol surrounding the number between 1 and 7 that defines the resin used.
